PERHAM BAPTIST CHURCH

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe that the Bible is God’s Holy Word, verbally and fully inspired and inerrant in the original text. It is the supreme authority in all manners of faith and conduct. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

  1. We believe in God the Father, perfect in holiness, infinite in wisdom, measureless in power. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and spiritual death all who come to Him through Christ Jesus. (John 4:24; Psalm 50:1)

  2. We believe in the incarnation of Jesus Christ, the Divine, Eternal and Only Begotten Son of God. We believe that in His earthly life, he was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin, and lived a sinless life. We believe that His atoning death was sufficient for the sins of the world. We believe in His bodily resurrection from the dead, His ascension to the right hand of the Father to make intercession for the saints, and in His personal, visible return to the world in power and glory. (John 1:14; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

  3. We believe in the Holy Spirit, in His personality and deity, that He was sent forth from the Father to convince the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. We believe that He is come to regenerate, indwell, sanctify, instruct, empower and comfort those who believe in Jesus Christ (Acts 1:8; John 16:8-11)

We believe that all men are by nature and by choice sinners, destitute of all power to save themselves. We believe that the only means of salvation for mankind is the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit through personal faith in Jesus Christ. We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men those that are saved unto the resurrection of eternal life, and those that are lost unto the resurrection of eternal damnation. (Romans 5:12; John 5:28-29)

We believe the Church is a living, spiritual body of which Jesus Christ is the Head, and to which all regenerated believers belong. We believe a local church is a company of believers in Jesus Christ and upon their profession of faith, baptized by immersion, associated for worship, work, fellowship and the task of persuading a lost and sinful world to receive Jesus Christ as savior and Lord. We believe that the ordinances of Baptism and The Lord’s Supper were committed for observance to the local church. We further believe that each church is independent and autonomous and must be free from interference by an ecclesiastical or political authority. (Colossians 1:18; Actus 2:42; Matthew 28:19-20)

We believe it is the Christian’s privilege and duty to grow in God’s grace and conform to the image of Jesus Christ through diligent study of the Scriptures, observance of Biblical standards, prayerful intercession for others and faithful stewardship of one’s time and possessions. (2 Timothy 2:15; Acts 2:42; 1 Corinthians 16:1-2)
